
Cheese Straws
Ingredients – Cheese Straws
1 sheet ready-rolled puff pastry
75 g (2.5 oz) grated cheddar cheese
1 egg, beaten
Step 1: Preheat
Oven settings: Fan 180°C, Electric 200°C, Gas 6.
Line a baking tray with paper.”
Step 2: Assemble
Lay out the pastry. Brush with beaten egg, sprinkle over cheese. Fold the pastry in half so the cheese is tucked inside. Roll lightly, then cut into strips.
Step 3: Twist & Bake
Take each strip, twist it like a corkscrew, and place on your tray. Brush with a bit more egg for that golden shine.
Bake for 12–15 minutes, until puffed and golden. The smell of melted cheese and butter is basically happiness in the air.
Baker’s Corner
Store-bought puff pastry tip: let it come to room temperature before unrolling, or it cracks. But don’t let it get too warm, or it sticks. The sweet spot is about 10 minutes on the counter.
